A place steeped in history

A Story of Family and Encounters

Since 1958, the Thalassa Hotel has evolved over the generations without ever losing its soul.

In the early days, Étienne Garidacci, a fisherman and farmer, supplied the hotel with fish and meat himself, while his father tended the family garden to provide vegetables for the kitchen. This local, family tradition has deeply shaped the hotel’s identity.

Over the years, the hotel has adapted to the expectations of its guests and to changes in the hospitality industry, while preserving its authentic, independent, and family-run character.

This unique atmosphere has also charmed many prominent figures, who have come to appreciate Thalassa’s tranquility and discretion. Among the most illustrious was Stephen Hawking, a leading figure in contemporary physics, who stayed at the hotel. Over the decades, the worlds of music and film have also found Thalassa to be a favorite destination.

The hotel has also hosted several Nobel laureates in physics, including Georges Charpak, Alfred Kastler, and Tsung-Dao (T. D.) Lee, as well as mathematician Cédric Villani.

Over the years, prominent figures from the worlds of the arts, literature, culture, and diplomacy have also chosen to stay at the hotel, including Maurice De Bevere, creator of Lucky Luke; Jean-François Giraud, French ambassador; Diane de Margerie; Christine Jordis, Paul Tortelier, Jean-Paul Rouland, Maurice Lévy, and many others.
